Hope (2022)
CAZORLA & SALEME
At the intersection of Treat Place and Maiden Lane lives a giant turquoise cloud that transforms into a patterned carpet decending into the sidewalk. Centered is a typographic sculpture with the written word: HOPE.
The sculpture, HOPE, (2023) was conceptualized by artists Cazorla + Saleme during the 2020 global pandemic, when “HOPE was all that we had.” Through bright fluorescent colors it commemorates our communities’ resilience and creates a space for joy. HOPE was funded by the 2020 City of Newark Creative Catalyst Fund.
