We Are Home is a public art project led by Yeimy Gamez Castillo in collaboration with the ImVisible collective and artist Layqa Nuna Yawar. ImVisible is a collective developed to empower the undocumented and immigrant community in Newark through multimedia storytelling. It was founded in 2018 as a peer-led initiative between Rutgers University Scholars, faculty, and community-based artists.
The collective is currently hosting a series of public planning workshops. These engagements will result in a series of posters that will be accessible to the public for free, as well as a design for a permanent mural in downtown Newark. The mural will be erected in the Spring of 2021. The events are posted on this website, the Four Corner Public Arts Instagram, and the ImVisible Instagram.
These events are for immigrants, refugees, first-generation, TBS recipients, parents, youth, and people without legal status: we want to hear from you. Please share this post, join us and help us build a monument of our experience in this city.
